Hi, I'm Lori,
Thank you so much for visiting my book store.
Inheriting my love of books from my mom, I've been an avid reader from a young age. As such, I had a very misspent youth, often devouring fifty books per year! (No time for partying when there are books to be read!).
My first love will always be fantasy and science fiction, though I love any story well told.
I live in the beautiful county of Shropshire, in the UK, with my husband Matt, our three children, Jacob, Caleb and Jonathan, and our two whippets, Freya & Loki (yes, it's a very busy house!).Read My Story
I couldn’t stop reading & have ordered the rest. I couldn’t read until I was in 6th grade & this book made learning worth it.
I'm loving this story and have not finished it yet. It is very interesting and I can't wait to finish it. I also bought the second book so will continue the saga next month also. I love this storyline.
Enjoyed.. Looking forward to next book…
But there is still danger ahead! I appreciated that twist in the path of this story! Some authors seem to enjoy making their heroes & heroines suffer as much as possible, but Ms. Holmes showed mercy on hers! A little anyway, for Rebaa's life's journey is far from easy! I enjoyed this story much more than I had expected to. Read it & see if perhaps you do too!
I bit on the advertisement. Disappointing that i didn’t love it as much. But it’s ok when not in comparison
This story was very different from what I usually read. I read the Clan of the cave bears years ago this reminded me of that book. It was good it kept my interest but I don’t know if I will read the next book
I never hardly ever see this genre - Stone-Age Fantasy. It's either one...or the other. As for The Forbidden, I read the first couple of chapters, then put it down for several months, going to other books in my Wait to be Read pile. Then, A couple of days ago, I came across it again, and ended up being swept away in this world. I love Stone-Age settings, but after decades of trying many, few ended up being good. I started in the 80's with Clan of the Cave Bear, then tried numerous others of its type, mostly women writers for some reason. And none captured my attention long. Too romancy for my tastes. Then there are the twin giants of Stone-Age drama - Kathleen & Michael Gear. But thus far, I found them quite long-winded and not as satisfying as Michael Gear's terrific sci-fi series about the planet of Donovan. So I'm glad to say that I FINALLY found a writer that captures that rarity - Stone-Age Fantasy with fast-paced storyline that has great, interesting characters and a tragic love story that is not sappy like most women writers pen their novels.Don't get me wrong, I'm all for a solid love story. Just it not being the driving force of the novel. This is not tween romance fantasy, which I thought it was going to be as I began it. But to my surprise, and breathing a sigh of relief, I found The Forbidden quite enjoyable. It was brought with action and adventure, A sheer chase through a rugged wilderness of our ancient past. Its got its fair share amount of flaws, but it sure is much better than numerous others of its ilk I've tried over the decades. The main character is solid, and her journey is fraught with dangers, both the animal and more so the human type. I wished there were a bit more apex predators in this book. There was a lot of travel with little to no beasts about. And since its fantasy-based, why not throw in dinosaurs into the mix? That would be insane!Perhaps she does in the next book or so. Guess I'll have to find out...
I loved Clan of the Cave Bear. So when I read the review of this book and they compared the two books I knew I had to read this. I loved it. Can’t wait to read the next one in the series.
Good read. It was a little slow atz times but still ended well. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.
Concept of tribal rivalries was interesting. Did have several tedious spots…but finishes with captivating twistWill read second in series
